12. HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2

Release Date: July 4, 2014

Dreamworks delivers the thrilling second chapter of the epic HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON trilogy next summer. The sequel picks up five years after the original as we reunite with Hiccup and Toothless on their latest adventures and the discovery of a secret ice cave, home to hundreds of new wild dragons and a mysterious dragon rider.

11. X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Release Date: May 23, 2014

Bryan Singer director of the first two X-Men films is back, and so to are the original cast. Also returning are Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence from the surprisingly fresh prequel, X-Men: First Class. The film is centred round a time travel story based on the much-loved Chris Claremont and John Byrne comic book that is still revered by fans to this day.

10. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

Release Date: May 2, 2014

Andrew Garfield is back as Spidey in the sequel to the  hugely successful 2012 reboot The Amazing Spider-Man. This time round, as well as balancing high school life with an average day of crime fighting, Spider-man must go head to head with Electro (Jamie Foxx), Rhino (Paul Giamatti) and possibly, the Green Goblin (Chris Cooper). Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) returns to direct bringing with him  Emma Stone and Dane Dehaan.

9. Untitled Terrence Malick Project

Release Date: 4 September, 2014

Director Terrance Malick will grace us with not one but two two films in 2014. The yet untitled project will star Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender, Ryan Gosling and Christian Bale. The story is said to be about intersecting love triangles of obsession and betrayal set against the music scene in Austin, Texas.

 

 

8. MUPPETS MOST WANTED

Release Date: March 21, 2014

It’s official, Kermit and the gang are back!  Muppets Most Wanted will no doubt be laced with the usual mayhem the Muppets bring, but this time they will bring Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey, Tom Hiddleston, Salma Hayek, Christoph Waltz, Ray Liotta and Danny Trejo along for the ride. James Bobin (flight of the conchords) is back in the directors chair.

7. TOMORROWLAND

Release Date: December 12, 2014

Very little is known about this sci-fi epic other than Brad Bird (Iron Giant, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) is directing.it. The film will star George Clooney in the lead role. Originally entitled “1952,” the project is about a boy inventor who embarks on discovering something in our shared collective conscious known only as “Tomorrowland.” Hugh Laurie and Brit Robertson are also on-board.

6. Gone Girl

Release Date: 3 October, 2014

David Fincher (Seven, Girl With The Dragon Tattoo)  directs an adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s acclaimed novel Gone Girl. The story follows a woman who mysteriously disappears on the day of her wedding anniversary.

The film will star Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris and Missi Pyle.

 

5. Knight of Cups (2014)

Release Date: TBC, 2014

Few details are known about Terrence Malick’s (Badlands, The Thin Red Line) second film of 2014, except it centres around the themes of temptation, celebrity, and excess.

The film will star Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Teresa Palmer and Cate Blanchett.

 

 

 

4. Mad Max: Fury Road (2014)mad-max-2014

Release Date: TBC, 2014

Although the plot is shrouded in mystery, we can assume it will loosely follow the original 1979 story.  The original trilogy director George Miller is back to reboot the franchise with Tom Hardy as Max. Nicholas Hoult, Charlize Theron and Mel Gibson will also star.

 

 

 

3. Unbroken (2014)

Release Date: 25 December, 2014

Angelina Jolie steps into the directors chair to bring  Ethan Coen and Joel Coen’s screenplay to life, in the true story of Louis Zamperini, the Olympic runner who was taken prisoner by Japanese forces during World War II.

 

 

 

2. Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father

Release Date: TBC, 2014

The film as I’m sure you guessed from its title follows the life story of crime boss John Gotti and his son. Joe Johnston (Rocketeer, Captain America) will direct the picture starring; Anthony Hopkins, John Travolta, Kelly Preston and Chazz Palminteri.

 

 

 

1. Maleficent

Release Date: 30 May, 2014

Angelina Jolie stars in Robert Stromberg’s re-imagining of the The “Sleeping Beauty” tale. This time the story will be told from the perspective of the villainous Maleficent looking at the events that hardened her heart and drove her to curse young Princess Aurora. Juno Temple, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley and Miranda Richardson also star.

    Noah, Inherent Vice, Exodus, Sin City, Fury, Guardians of the Galaxy, Maleficient and both Terrence Malick films.
