Star Wars VII Casting Rumours For Lead Role
With Adam Driver (Inside Llewyn Davis) locked into the villain role in Star Wars VII, Disney and Lucasfilm is quickly moving things forward in the direction of finding the right Jedi to challenge that nasty empire.
Earlier today it was reported at Variety by an unknown source that “Downton Abbey” star Ed Speleers (left), “Attack the Block” star John Boyega (centre) and Breaking Bad’s Jesse Plemons (right) are among a short list of actors that director J.J. Abrams is eyeing for the lead Jedi role. Theatre thesps Matthew James Thomas, and Ray Fisher are also said to be on the list of possibilities.
Although details of this lead character are shrouded in mystery (like that’s a surprise) the part is believed to be a Jedi apprentice. While the original draft of the script scribed by Michael Arndt was said to centre around the children of Han Solo and Princess Leia, J.J Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan’s recent rewrite is said to put their offspring in a more supporting role.
As previously reported, Abrams is expected to surround a less-familiar actor with the more established stars in the supporting roles who are reported to include many of the original trilogy’s cast members like Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill.
Star Wars Episode VII will begin shooting this summer in London’s Pinewood Studios with the film scheduled for release on Dec 18 2015
